Refresh your marketing and website when business is quiet
If business is quiet because of school holidays, Brexit or a pandemic, it’s a great time to work on your own business. We all get caught up in client work and day to day running of our businesses, so a bit of downtime can be a welcome break to make sure our own marketing is up to date. Here are some ways you can make the most of a quiet time in your business.
Revisit your marketing plan
Knowing exactly what you offer and to whom is a good place to start, so you can focus your efforts on what you want to achieve. Defining your niche and refining your message is a good way to use your downtime. Asking existing clients can be a great way to see how your business comes across and tweaking things accordingly.
Check your search engine optimisation (SEO)
If you haven’t set up Google Analytics and Search Console, this is a quick win to help you see how people find your website and use it once they are there. If you already have those services set up, check up on your traffic and keywords, as well as checking for any issues that might need fixing on your site.
Running a link checker and redirecting any dead or changed links, and checking your Google Pagespeed scores for desktop and mobile are also worth doing while things are quiet.
If you’re using WordPress (like our web design for counsellors package), installing the Yoast SEO plugin can help you optimise your own pages for a chosen keyword.
Make changes to your website
If you’ve been wanting to redesign your site, add new sections or pages or update your branding, now could be a good time. Keeping things fresh by updating your website copy and images is also good for visitors and search engines.
Update your blog
If your blog hasn’t been updated for a while, why not add some new posts and schedule them for future publishing. Choosing a question you get asked a lot or a search keyword and writing a blog on that topic can save you time when people ask, and help you get more traffic from search engines. Nothing is more tragic than an unloved blog!
Make some new marketing materials
If you post to social media, including images can help you stand out from the text only messages. Creating some nice new images to promote your products and services can help you build up a bank of materials to use on social media over the coming months.

Summary
While a quiet spell in business can be worrying, it’s a great time to work on your own marketing and website while you have time!
